Katz's Delicatessen is universally held up as one of the few remaining old-school Jewish delis still open in New York, but as it turns out there is only one remaining Jewish waiter still working at Katz's. His name is David Manheim, and he's an aspiring late-night host who recently started blogging his life there with a blog called, appropriately, The Last Jewish Waiter. Last week he released a wonderfully profane video of his life at Katz's, proving that if old-school Jewish delis are disappearing, old-school Jewish humor is not.
Manheim calls the meat-cutters the "engine" driving that Katz's Deli car, then immediately follows up by saying, "Everything here is a pain in the ass, and the cutters are like the meat of the problem." He calls working at Katz's "the toughest job you'll ever love" and proudly declares, "I abuse my customers as much as I can." Because: "They say the customer is always right. I say not here. Fuck them." And he's got some choice words for Katz's ticket system.
