Golden Cadillac [UPDATE]

New, 5 comments

Francis Derby worked at wd~50, Ssam Bar, Gilt, Shorty's .32, and Tailor before opening King in Soho last year. He jumped ship three months after the restaurant made its debut, and the place shuttered for good three months after that. Now it appears that he's attached to a new restaurant coming to the old Boca Chica space on First Avenue called Golden Cadillac.

EV Grieve notices that the team behind Golden Cadillac filed paperwork (PDF) with the CB3 that includes menus, floor plans, and renderings of the space. The proposed menu features dishes like bacon-wrapped lamb chops, a Pat LaFrieda burger, a Monte Cristo sandwich, and a short-rib patty melt. The other big name player attached to this project is bar man Giuseppe Gonzalez, who previously worked at PKNY, Clover Club, Dutch Kills, and Flatiron Lounge. As EV Grieve notes, Gonzalez and his partners tried to open Golden Cadillac on East 13th Street two years ago, to no avail. The team will go before the CB3's SLA Licensing committee next Monday.
UPDATE: Although his name and bio are included in the paperwork that was filed with the CB3, Francis Derby is not involved with this project at all. He tells Eater: "Honestly, I spoke to these guys months and months ago about consulting with them, but we never finalized anything." The menu that is used in the paperwork is based on a sample that Derby drafted last year, but it was not meant to be shared.
