Yuji Haraguchi is bringing his hit pop-up Yuji Ramen to a permanent location in Williamsburg this summer. Zagat gets word that the restaurant will be called Okonomi?Japanese for "as you like it"?and that Haraguchi is targeting a July or August opening. (In March he told Fork in the Road that he was targeting June, so it's delayed slightly.)
Haraguchi has been wowing New Yorkers for a couple of years now, with his broth and noodles at Smorgasburg, at a five-month-long stint at Kinfolk Studios in Williamsburg (now home to Aska), and for the last month in the pop-up space upstairs at the Bowery Whole Foods. The exact location of his new brick-and-mortar hasn't been announced yet, but it's apparently a 400-square-foot space near Lorimer and North 8th streets that will offer takeout ramen, street food, and the omakase-style tastings that Yuji Ramen has been doing at the Whole Foods pop-up.
On a related note, Yuji Ramen's tenure at Whole Foods has been extended a few months. Haraguchi will be there until August 12.
