In winter 2014, Pastis will temporarily close so that the owners of 9 Ninth Avenue can build on top of the space. Gael Greene breaks the news this morning in her Fork Play newsletter. Keith McNally tells Ms. Gael that the restaurant will close "for nine months" starting in January. "I'll be moving back around September," the restaurateur explains.
The owners of the Pastis building recently partnered with Aurora Capital Associates with plans to expand it by adding a few floors on top. Last week, McNally vehemently denied the rumors that Pastis and Baltahzar were closing at the end of their leases. Hopefully the restaurant will only be closed for nine months, as promised. The Meatpacking District needs Pastis now more than ever.
