John DeLucie's Crown Group plans to open an Italian restaurant in the West Chelsea space that formerly housed Mr. West. The massive 4,000 square foot venue has a lower level lounge area, and the team hopes to add outdoor seating. This will be the fourth New York restaurant for DeLucie, who also operates Crown, The Lion, and most recently Bill's Food & Drink. DeLucie tells Grub Street that he envisions this as "a more casual Italian café concept." The as-yet-unnamed restaurant is slated to open in the fall.
There's also word from the New York Times that Marc Murphy, the chef and owner of Landmarc and Ditch Plains among others, has signed on to head up the restaurant for the new Viceroy Hotel, currently going up in Midtown. He and his partners at the Gerber Group will create both the ground floor restaurant and the rooftop bar for the hotel, which will open this fall on 57th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue.
