After just six weeks in business, the Garment District steakhouse Desmond's has undergone a complete turnover of its kitchen staff. The restaurant had hired Irish chef Conrad Gallagher (of The Purple Fig) as consulting chef, banking on his "controversial personality" to generate some buzz. But that strategy backfired when Gallagher walked out before Desmond's had even opened, to be followed last week by the entire kitchen staff he'd brought on with him, plus three of the restaurant's waiters.
