Jay Cheshes, who has worked as Time Out New York's restaurant critic for the last five years, is calling it quits after this week's review. His announcement hit the web this afternoon, with the critic concluding that "There's never been a better time to eat out in New York." Former TONY food and drinks editor Jordana Rothman will take Cheshes's place on an interim basis.

In his farewell, Cheshes also notes that he's only given TONY maximum of five stars to just eight restaurants. (Who knew it was that few?) The eighth is actually this week's: For his last act, Cheshes files a glowing five-star review of Carbone, which he calls "a Godfather hangout on steroids, more fantastical set piece than history-bound throwback."
