Several tipsters have sent in word that the Tribeca steakhouse Dylan Prime has been seized by the tax man. According to a pair of letters from the State Department of Taxation and Finance spotted on the door today, the state seized the restaurant for "nonpayment of New York State Taxes" and will sell it and its belongings off "as directed by law unless this warrant is otherwise satisfied."
The seizure apparently happened some time last week, with Tribeca Citizen getting word that it would reopen on Friday, which became Tuesday, which became indefinite.
Co-owner John Mautone sends word this afternoon that, yes, the restaurant is still closed but says "we are working things out with the State and we will have posession [sic] back in a matter of days." He adds, "We have been planning a major renovation for several months so this is not a setback for us. We are undecided about reopening for business or going straight to the remodel but will make that decision upon reacquiring the space." Developing.
