The General Is Temporarily Closed Due to Permit Issue

The General by Krieger

Last night, several Eater readers wrote in with word that employees of EMM Group's new Bowery mega restaurant The General were turning away guests and closing the space down. At around 8 p.m., a hostess told Eater that the restaurant was closing because of an emergency. A rep from EMM sent along this official statement: "The General was closed tonight due to a permitting issue. We expect to resolve this as soon as possible." Bowery Boogie notices that a yellow DOH sign now hangs in the window. The sign notes that the restaurant was closed for "operating without a permit."

This news comes less than a week after EMM decided to close Bow, one of two clubs in the same building as The General. EMM Group is also locked in a battle with the neighbors and the CB3 over the noise emanating from the space, and a proposed liquor license alteration for the other club, Finale. No word yet on when The General will reopen.
