The EMM Group went back to a Community Board 3 subcommittee last night in hopes of getting the necessary recommendations needed to operate their new restaurant the General and its downstairs club Finale. Previous visits to CB 3 offered a preview of what Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum would be facing, and not surprisingly, the night went exactly as one would have expected.
The restaurants' upstairs neighbors came out in force to complain about the new club, referencing the noise, the lines, the traffic, and leaking issues into basement storage areas, with people discussing abandoning their homes even though nothing is listed for sale in the building. EMM had even gone so far as to kill BOW from the project to try and appease their foes, but apparently that had little effect.
The proposed license changes were eventually rejected by the CB 3 committee in a 6-1 vote, so now it's on to the full board and then eventually the SLA, who will rule whether the restaurant, bakery, cafe, lounge and new jazz club is actually living up to the operating procedures it promised last year.
