Chelsea residents can breathe a sigh of relief now that a key Community Board 5 committee has recommended the approval of the liquor license application filed by Mike Satsky and Brian Gefter for a new nightclub in the space occupied by Shadow Nightclub. That's because Shadow owner Steven Juliano had promised to invest millions of dollars in the space and come back "bigger, badder and blacker" in an effort to torment his neighbors who he had accused of being racist against his customers.
Satsky and Gefter will renovate the club and create a new 525 person venue that will host live electronic music. The board members are thrilled with the new operators, with one testifying that Satsky and Gefter are the "most professional, most cooperative [operators] that I've personally ever worked with." The project must now go to the full board and the SLA for its approval.
