Mepa Shocker: Double Seven Closes Again!

New, 4 comments

In what is a bit of a shock, Double Seven, the trendy nightspot owned by nightlife kings David Rabin and Jeffrey Jah, has shut its doors before it reached its second birthday. A club source told Eater that the club has actually been "on hiatus" since January 1st although apparently no one noticed until now. The club was part of the first wave of Meatpacking District trendiness, but had to close after the building the club was in was sold and the new owners terminated the club's lease in 2007. Rabin and his partners then spent a whopping four years working on the Double Seven 2.0, which opened in 2011 but never gained much traction except when it made headlines for being the site of the Royal Rumble between philanthropist and American Hero Adam Hock and Monaco's Prince Pierre Casiraghi and Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos III. A Double Seven spokesperson tells Eater that the owners are "actively negotiating with several investor groups to reinvigorate the business in New York and expand to other markets that have expressed interest in the brand."
