Pastis, Keith McNally's third or fourth greatest restaurant, is going into hibernation a little bit later than expected. Grub Street learns that the MePa classic is now going to close on January 31, and not early next month, as was previously reported. The landlord is revamping the entire building, but McNally hopes to reopen the restaurant once the construction work is complete. Kool Keith recently told Eater: "I anticipate the construction will take a year. My plan is to reopen Pastis as soon as construction is finished. Hopefully, in January 2015." The MePa will be a dark, cold place without Pastis. It's perhaps best that you avoid that zone entirely next year, unless you're visiting someone at The Standard.
As noted earlier this month, McNally's misunderstood near-masterpiece Pulino's will close after service on Sunday. Big Keith will reopen the space in the spring as a new French restaurant called Cherche Midi.
