Alex Stupak is Planning a New Restaurant on St. Mark's

Empellon's Alex Stupak is looking to open a third restaurant in the former Sushi Lounge space on St. Mark's Place. EV Grieve first noted yesterday that Empellon is seeking a liquor license for the space at the upcoming Community Board 3/SLA committee meeting in January, and Stupak confirms that this is indeed him. He tells Eater: "I very much love the space and location. I want a third restaurant in 2014."

There's not much information yet on what this third restaurant will be (provided all goes well with the CB3). Stupak has thrown around all kinds of ideas in the past, including a masa-focused restaurant, and more recently a three Michelin-star Mexican restaurant, a restaurant that only serves mezcal, or a restaurant with meals structured "in a unique way like they do in Mexico." But for now, he says, "I can't tell you what it is going to be yet, only because I seem to change my mind every step of the way, historically speaking."
