Village Standby Silver Spurs Rides Off Into the Sunset

The Broadway location of Silver Spurs, a restaurant that is beloved by NYU freshmen and old Village dwellers alike, is closing after service this Sunday. According to a note in the window, the lease expired, and the owner decided not to renew. The restaurant has been open in this location for the last 34 years. The owner writes: "We developed many friendships and loyal customers over the years and we will be forever grateful. Thank you to our staff and our loyal customers for being a part of our restaurant over the last three decades."

The good news for fans of the diner is that the LaGuardia Place location is still open. But as EV Grieve notes, with the loss of Silver Spurs, University Diner, and Bon Vivant, there aren't many cheap diner options in this neighborhood anymore.
