The opening of the new Tavern on the Green is delayed, once again. Owners Jim Caiola and David Salama were hoping for a New Year's Eve opening, but now they've had to push the date back to the end of January. Caiola tells Crain's that the delay is mostly because the building is old and decrepit, and stuff like a chimney collapsing "happens almost every week there." No doubt design features like a glass cube-enclosed dining room haven't made things any easier.
The city, meanwhile, seems to be running into the same problems working on the outside of the building (the restaurateurs are only responsible for the interior), and is still doing the work that was supposed to be finished in July. But the restaurant has started posting job listings on Craigslist, and has about 250 positions to fill in the next month. When Tavern 2.0 does finally open, it'll start with just dinner service and a limited take-out window menu, then add on lunch a few weeks later.
