After eight years in business, University Place standby Jack Bistro has closed. The restaurant shuttered its doors after dinner service on Tuesday, posting a sign that explained: "Unfortunately, the financial obstacles in operating a reasonably-priced neighborhood restaurant have ultimately become too great to overcome."

This afternoon the sign had been changed to simply read: "After serving over 600,000 meals to our beloved customers, our ovens are tired and Jack Bistro has retired. Visit your local neighborhood businesses!" An employee who had been there almost as long as the restaurant was inside clearing out the space, and told Eater the restaurant will be replaced by a TD Bank, which outbid the owners for the lease by offering $8,000 more in rent.
