Amanda Cohen Has Big Plans for 86 Allen Street

That rumor that Amanda Cohen is planning a restaurant for 86 Allen Street is indeed true. The full and very thorough liquor license application now available on the CB3 website not only confirms that Cohen is at the helm of this new project, but also includes detailed floor plans and a sample menu.

The new place would be a big bump up in space for Cohen, with twice as many tables as her current tiny dining room, plus a full bar, which Dirt Candy doesn't have room for. Another important detail worth noting: the application includes plans for a 12 to 16 seat chef's counter. The dinner menu provided looks like an expanded version of the vegetarian food served at the two-star Dirt Candy. More interesting is the addition of lunch at this new spot, which would open at 11 a.m. to serve sandwiches and salads like a sweet potato nicoise and a beet sandwich on rye. Cohen will go before the SLA committee for licensing approval on November 18.
