DeLucie's Revamp of King Cole Bar Opens in the St. Regis

Chef/restaurateur John DeLucie's revamp of the storied King Cole Bar is now open in the St. Regis Hotel. Now dubbed the King Cole Bar & Salon, it's been styled to "evoke the jazz lounges of the 1920s," although the famed King Cole mural, which dates back to 1908, still spans the wall behind the bar.

The restaurant is open all day, with the bar opening at noon. The all-day menu includes dishes like grilled lamb merguez, trout saltimbocca, and pappardelle with rabbit ragu, plus a $225 "Grand Royal" seafood platter (or $550 with the addition of caviar). There's also a bar menu with snacks like truffle mac and cheese and mini burgers, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. the restaurant serves a $55 afternoon tea. Go between Wednesday and Sunday, and that tea will also include a live harpist. At around $25 each, cocktails cost about the same as the bar snacks. And along with cocktails like the Old King Cole, with gin, vermouth and amaro, there are six different Bloody Marys to choose from. That, of course, is because the King Cole Bar is where that iconic drink originated, albeit under the name Red Snapper.
