Old school East Village bar HiFi is undergoing some cosmetic changes. Owner Mike Stuto provides an update on the bar's website, saying that his team is "redesigning the entrance and storefront, changing the furniture and the colors, and adding in a 40-ish capacity room with its own separate bar that will have a myriad of uses," one of which will be live music. Don't get your hopes up that this is a return to the bar's Brownies days, but Stuto says "there will be no drum sets played inside HiFi." Too bad.
The sad news is that the renovations mean the end of the pool table, which has been removed forever. The bar will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays to accommodate the construction, which has already begun, but HiFi remains opens the rest of the week. It's great to see a longtime neighborhood favorite looking to the future instead of having to say goodbye.
