Hudson Square Dive Antarctica to Close in January

Antarctica, a cheap-o bar that's somewhat popular with the people that live and work around Hudson Square, is closing on January 4. A bartender tells Tribeca Citizen: "The landlord has bigger and better plans." Apparently, the owners do not plan to reopen the bar elsewhere in the neighborhood. Fans of Antarctica should take a look at the bar's very retro website, which notes: "Antarctica's swim-up pool table is a unique experience; the neighborhood's non-glitterati are often seen here, kveching about one thing or another."
