Betony, The Elm, Juni Make Esquire's Best of 2013 List

New, 10 comments

On the heels of the various other stars bestowed and rankings issued last week comes Esquire's list of the best new restaurants of 2013. According to a press release, John Mariani names Betony in Midtown as his pick for "restaurant of the year" although curiously, there's no information about that on the fancy listicle that's currently up on Esquire.com. Betony was mentioned on this listicle about 30 minutes ago, but now it's gone.

Two other New York restaurants landed on Mariani's list. The Elm, Paul Liebrandt's more-casual departure from Manhattan and Corton, earns praise for its "sleeker" dishes, which Mariani says are the "result of the intellect going beyond the sensational in search of true excellence." Meanwhile, Shaun Hergatt gets similar praise for the cooking at his new restaurant, the "restrained but thrilling" Juni. Mariani writes: "There is no artifice here, no mutations of ingredients."
