Sandy-Damaged Thai Rock to Open Dining Room Tonight

New, 4 comments

Tonight, Rockaway Beach restaurant Thai Rock will serve food and drinks in its dining room for the first time since Hurricane Sandy. The restaurant was badly damaged in the storm. Robert Kaskel was able to open his deck to customers a few months ago, but he stopped serving on the patio last month to focus on rebuilding the dining room. Kaskel tells Eater National: "Most important for us is to keep the cash flowing because right now I've been out of business for effectively three weeks...I can't keep going like this."

During this soft opening phase, Kaskel will serve a limited menu with things like curry-marinated chicken, pork skewers, skirt steak, and a burger with a "Thai slant." Kaskel will reintroduce the rest of the menu items in the coming weeks. To celebrate the reopening of the dining room and the outdoor space, the restaurant will host performances by singer-songwriters Walker Hornung and Joe Cang tomorrow evening.
