New York gets another single menu item restaurant this week with the opening of Empire Biscuit on Avenue A between 12th and 13th streets. The restaurant sells biscuits with 24 butter/spread options, plus biscuit sandwiches, and biscuits & gravy. One Southern-style biscuit with two spreads costs $4.50, and you can mix and match the toppings, or choose from a few "meant for each other" combinations. The restaurant opened yesterday, and the team is taking the day off today to recuperate, with plans to return tomorrow. Soon, Empire Biscuit will be open 24-hours-a-day.
In other single menu item restaurant news, Serious Eats discovers that the gourmet nuggets at Nugget Stop are actually mini-tenders, not fried forcemeat patties. That's basically false advertising.
