Sam Hazen's Three-Star Restaurant Veritas Has Closed

New, 17 comments

Some sad news for fine dining fans and wine-lovers today: Veritas, Sam Hazen's excellent New American restaurant in the Flatiron District, has closed. Chef Hazen tells Eater that his team had ongoing "issues with the landlord" and that they are exploring other opportunities in New York.

Hazen took over the restaurant in 2010 after a series of staff shuffles, and a brief shuttering. A few months later, Sam Sifton awarded three stars to Veritas, which is a rating that he did not give out very often during his tenure. Although it never quite caught on with the young foodie set, Veritas was beloved by fine dining enthusiasts, oenophiles, and chefs.

Earlier this year, Hazen opened The Chester in the Meatpacking District, and it sounds like the chef and his team hope to open another restaurant soon. Veritas originally opened in 1999, with chef Scott Bryan at its helm.
