The DOH closed Danny Bowien's wildly popular Lower East Side restaurant Mission Chinese Food on Tuesday night after it racked up 70 violation points during an inspection. The "critical" violations included evidence of mice in the food prep area, surfaces that were not properly washed, cold items held above 41 degrees, and a "toxic chemical improperly labeled, stored or used such that food contamination may occur." The restaurant remains closed. Here's a look at the inspection info, which just hit the DOH site:

A DOH rep told Gothamist: "Mission Chinese was closed by the Department of Health because of a public health hazard that could not be corrected at the time of the inspection. In this case, the restaurant had a severe mouse infestation that required professional pest control services."
The yellow DOH sticker currently hangs in the window, and on Tuesday night, an employee put up a sign explaining: "Closed because of leak in basement." Hopefully the Mission Chinese crew will sort this out and get the stoves fired up again soon.
