Growing mini-chain 5 Napkin Burger is the latest addition to the hot area just north of Madison Square Park, which some people refer to as The Nomad. The Post reports that the owners of Nice Matin's burger joint spinoff have just signed the lease on a big space on Broadway, just a couple of blocks south of the NoMad and Ace hotels. This will be the fifth 5 Napkin Burger in New York, and the company also has outposts in Boston and South Beach.
News of this expansion comes not too long after the owners of The Smith, another generic-but-reliable casual American chain, also announced plans to open a location on that same super hip stretch. Along with Sweetgreen, the popular DC salad chain that opened over the summer, it looks like all these restaurants are looking to get in among the cool kids on those blocks.
UPDATE: The management company for the space in question says that no lease has been signed, and that the Post never contacted them when reporting on this story.
