Don Julio González's Passion Lives on in His Tequila

Today, Don Julio is the first word in premium tequila, but few realize that it was Don Julio González himself who made the bold moves necessary to turn tequila from a farmer's moonshine into a first-class luxury spirit. González established his first distillery at just 17 and spent the next forty years seeking a better tequila. Growing only the highest quality 100% pure blue Weber agave plants; allowing them to mature for three years longer than necessary; and then using only the best parts of the plant's piña, or core, he crafted the world's first luxury tequila, the crystal-clear herbaceous spirit that now carries his name.

Hit play on the video above to see the man in action, and head this way for pairing recipes (a traditional mole poblano is the perfect dish to enjoy with Don Julio 1942®), and to learn how to mix an expert Don Julio margarita.
