Babbo's Truffle Tasting Lunch; Catching Up With Cannon

GREENWICH VILLAGEBabbo just introduced a lunchtime truffle tasting menu for $99. It includes things like a sunny-side up duck egg, grilled veal breast, and agnolotti, all made with fresh white truffles. The restaurant is also offering "riserva" wine pairings with each course for $100. Mario Batali was sharing pictures, videos, and gifs of the new dishes all day. Check out the full menu (plus a video from Batali) at the bottom of this post. [EaterWire]

TRIUMPHANT RETURNSDo not miss Alex Witchel's chat with industry legend Chris Cannon. The restaurateur sheds some light on what he did after splitting with Michael White and Ahmass Fakahany: "I had to take a timeout...I needed to decompress and decide whether to continue working in this business. I've had time to think, and there's got to be a why to what you're doing. It has to be about more than monetizing success." Cannon is getting ready to jump back in the restaurant game with the opening of All'Onda next month. [NYT]

TOP CHEFFAGELast night on Top Chef New Orleans, the brave contestants had to prepare New Orleans-inspired Vietnamese food. There was Eddie Huang wearing a shirt that looked like a lobster screensaver from 1997, a party bus, shrimp, and something called the Top Chef Dine & Dash. Comedian Alison Leiby is here to make sense of it all. [-EN-]
