Almost seven years after being christened Hell Square, the battle over the amount of nightlife venues in the area rages on. The area is one of the most saturated in the city (and possibly the world) with bars and restaurants, and even as they continue to attack each other, a group of NIMBYs has decided that the opening of the Ludlow House (i.e. Soho House Lower East Side) will be the straw that breaks the camel's back, with Diem Boyd, who founded L.E.S. Dwellers, saying the area is "like Bourbon Street. There are no cars on Bourbon Street, people just party in the street."
While the SLA and the folks from the Ludlow House are remaining quiet, the judge who presided over their 500' hearing in August is expected to rule today. The safe bet would be that they get a license for inside, with a restriction on serving alcohol on the roof.
