According to a notice from the restaurant on the Department of Labor website, the 8th Avenue location of T.G.I. Friday's will be closing early next year. The announcement is an early warning to the employees of the restaurant, which the state requires from any business laying off more than 25 workers. The notice calls it a "Plant Closing" and lists "Economic" as the "Reason for Dislocation" The closing date is set for January 19, when a total of 77 workers will lose their jobs.
Nobody was picking up the phone at this location today, and there's still a chance the closure might just be for renovations. But in the meantime Midtowners and the Penn Station masses will have to go elsewhere for their loaded potato skins — namely one of the three other T.G.I. Friday's in a two block radius.
