Next week chef Masaharu Morimoto will open the revamp of his critically panned Tribeca Canvas. The new restaurant will not, as previously reported, be called Canvas, but instead Bisutoro, after the Japanese word for bistro. This time around, Morimoto has partnered with Patrick Fahey and Emmanuelle LaSalle Hill, of the nearby Macao Trading Co., and Tommy Hill, of Los Americanos.
Gone is the enchanted forest decor, replaced by mid-century furniture and cityscape murals by street artist Charlie Doves. The menu of Asian-influenced comfort food like shrimp nachos has also been nixed in favor of an Asian-influenced bistro menu, which includes dishes like steak frites with togarashi butter and spaghetti carbonara with uni. A new cocktail menu focuses on Japanese whiskeys, and there's a late-night bar menu to go alongside. Check back next week for a look inside the all-new, hopefully improved space.
