It looks like Park Slope's last real dive bar, Jackie's Fifth Amendment, has served its last. Word of its closure first surfaced back in August, when a bartender told Brooklyn Magazine that owner Henry Costello, whose health was declining, had decided to sign the space over to the pharmacy next door.
Though the bar didn't close on September 14, as originally rumored, the rest of the story proved true. Now Park Slope Stoop reports that the gates are down "at a typically open hour" and the phone has been disconnected. Bereaved Slopers will have to search for somewhere else to get that cheap bucket of ponies.
