East Williamsburg community arts center 3rd Ward abruptly closed on Wednesday, but the facility's seven-week-old Italian restaurant, Fitzcarraldo, is still very much open. Now that there won't be people taking classes and working next door, the owners have decided to change the hours and shift the focus of the restaurant slightly. Restaurateur Julian Brizzi tells Eater:
The major change for Fitzcarraldo, outside of now being a standalone business at 195 Morgan Ave. (for the moment) is that we're going to be closing for daytime service, offering dinner and brunch only for the foreseeable future. This will allow us to consolidate our resources and really push to keep Fitzcarraldo as great a restaurant as we believe it is and will continue to be.
Brizzi says that the shuttering of 3rd Ward is "a huge loss to the Brooklyn creative community." He also notes that his team is currently negotiating the terms of their new lease, but the restaurant will stay open without disruption. From now on, Fitzcarraldo will be open for dinner Tuesday through Friday, and it will open at 11 a.m. on the weekends and serve food and drinks all day. It's a beautiful space, and the bloggers and Yelpers have a lot of good things to say about the food at Fitzcarraldo so far.
