Velvet Lounge Shut Down by Department of Buildings

The Department of Buildings gave the owners of Velvet Lounge an order to vacate the space. Besides leaving Williamsburg without its only cigar lounge, the other interesting part of this forced shutter is the reason behind it. During an inpsection, the DoB found an illegal dwelling unit had been built in the back of the bar. Apparently that's a no-no and now the bar has been slapped with a partial vacate order.

We'd venture a guess that the old Velvet Lounge will remain closed until the apartment no longer exists.
