One of New York's old-timer steakhouses has been given a second lease on life. Steve Cuozzo reports that 85-year-old Gallagher's in Midtown was just bought by Central Park Boathouse operator Dean Poll.
In October, Gallagher's owner Marlene Brody submitted a closing notice with the Department of Labor, and she informed her employees about a possible January closing date. But now Poll has signed a 20-year lease on the building (which is half-owned by Brody), and he plans to keep its classic decor but change the menu a bit. Poll notes: "It's part of the fabric of New York, and I'm privileged to own it."
