The Times talks to restaurant designer Adam D. Tihany, who's worked with Daniel Boulud, Jean-Georges, and others. On meeting Sirio Maccioni at the original Le Cirque: "He said: 'So you're an architect. Can you take this column out? It's bothering me.' I thought for a moment and said, 'I don't think I can take it out, but I can make it disappear.' I clad it in mirror and it sort of disappeared. We've worked together ever since." [NYT]
