WHALE WEEK 2013 ? Eater National takes a look at the 14 most expensive tasting menus in America. Daniel and Brooklyn Fare rank as relative steals at numbers 14 and 12, respectively, while Masa tops the list, with a real cost of $1,160 for two, before drinks. [Eater National]

SOHO ? Ed's Lobster Bar is closing down for some renovations today through Saturday. It'll reopen on Sunday, February 3 at noon. [EaterWire]

CLINTON HILL ? Blackbook has a hefty profile of The Wallace, a newish American restaurant on Fulton Street. Here's chef and co-owner Jon Wallace on his American menu: "Working with American food allows you to take the influences of all the numerous culinary cultures of the world and throw them together in a melting pot similar to America. If I feel like I want to use curry, miso or chimmy churry [sic]in any of my dishes, I can pretty much sell it as American food—as far as using American ingredients and making things that are familiar to an American audience." MIDTOWN ? Here's the coda on the story of that Italian tourist who got arrested after being unable to pay his bill at Smith & Wollensky: the Neapolitan lawyer will have his charges dismissed if he remains arrest-free for the next six months. Meanwhile, a friend of his declared outside of city court today that no Italians will ever go to Smith & Wollensky again, which seems unlikely. [NYP]
