The proprietors of Joe's Pizza on Carmine Street are opening a new location in the 14th Street space that most recently housed Naked Pizza. Nobody liked that place. The drunk NYU kids wouldn't even take that bait, and it sits right next to their dorm. This is a real trade-up.
A member of the Joe's team sends word that the new pizzeria will open sometime in late February with the same menu, plus one salad (maybe). Oddly enough, Joe's has never expanded before. (The shop moved about 50 feet to a new space seven years ago, but the owners have never opened a second location until now.) Joe's is still operated by original proprietor Pino "Joe" Pozzuoli, and his sons Andy and Dino. The finished space will have the same look and feel as the original.
Joe's doesn't serve fancy pies, but the regular slices — and especially the square slices — are always right on the money. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
