Last night, the members of Community Board 1 voted to support the beer and wine license application for a "California burger chain" moving into the Brookfield Properties, a new office/retail development in Battery Park City. After the meeting, CB1 BPC committee chairman Anthony Notaro told the blog BatteryPark.TV that this is going to be a location of LA's beloved Umami Burger chain.
Umami Burger recently announced plans to expand in the New York area over the next few years. The first location is slated to open this year at 432 Sixth Avenue in the Village, and the plan is to open about five more by 2014. An Umami Burger spokesperson tells BatteryPark.TV: "We have not announced a location at World Financial Center. The only location we have announced is on Sixth Avenue. We don't announce any locations until we have an actual signed lease."
A Battery Park City location would make sense though — it's very close to the World Trade Center, the World Financial Center, and several residential buildings.
