After a few days of friends and family dinners, the first NYC outpost of Vermont pizza favorite American Flatbread is now open on Hudson Street in Tribeca. American Flatbread specializes in pizzas baked in a wood-fired clay oven, all of which are made with ingredients sourced from local farmers. The menus at the other locations feature about 10 pies and one starter, the "evolution salad." The new Tribeca location serves about the same number of pizzas plus three salads, as well as desserts, beer, and wine. The restaurant will eventually offer delivery, but for now you can get take-and-bake pies, and full-baked pizzas to-go if it's not too busy. The space has one oven now, but a second is on the way.
A serious cult following has developed around the three Vermont locations, so it will be interesting to see what the pizza snobs of this city think of those oval-shaped pies topped with organic veggies and Vermont cheese. American Flatbread Tribeca is now open for dinner and lunch. Do send any early reports our way.
