64-year-old Bay Ridge soda fountain Hinsch's will close for good on March 1. Co-owner Roger Desmond tells the Brooklyn Paper: "The area no longer supports this kind of establishment...Bay Ridge is more of a fast food kind of place now. Hinsch's is passé, I guess." The greasy spoon closed back in 2011, but it was quickly bought by Desmond. He reopened it a few months later with the same menu and decor. The restaurateur still owns the name, but he does not foresee reopening Hinsch's in another location. Desmond notes: "We're neighborhood people, and we wanted to keep the tradition alive, keep Bay Ridge alive, and it didn't work."
