Michael Bao Confirms Shutter of East Village Baoguette

Another one falls in the Bao empire: Prolific Vietnamese chef/restaurateur/empire builder Michael Bao Huynh confirms to Eater that the St Marks Place location of Baoguette closed after service on Sunday. The location had recently endured some troubles with the Department of Buildings after barbecue smoke leaked into the units above, leading Bao to sell the lease to his landlord. Meanwhile, the remaining Baoguette locations in Murray Hill, the West Village and the Financial District are downsizing to counter service only.

The irrepressible restaurateur says he'll be focusing on his new West Village restaurant BAO, which may end up being his last New York City project.
