Lani Kai, Julie Reiner's Hawaiian-themed restaurant and cocktail den, will stop service tomorrow night after a two-year run. According to the Daily News, the space was acquired by actress Amanda Leigh Dunn and former America's Next Top Model star Kim Stolz, who plan to turn it into a "lesbian-implied" bar named the Dalloway. For what is apparently their first restaurant project, Dunn and Stolz took the name from Virginia Woolf, and hired a chef from Boston's Noche. The star-studded duo will now immediately go to work renovating the space with the ambitious goal of opening the Dalloway by October.
As for Reiner, she is still fully occupied by her other projects like Clover Club and Flatiron Lounge. Although the bar had its fans, Lani Kai always seemed like a bit of an ambitious reach in a challenging space that others have had trouble making a go of (R.I.P. Tailor). Eater has reached out for comment, but there's still no word yet from Reiner.
