Momofuku Vet Peter Serpico to Open Philly Restaurant

New, 16 comments

One of New York's top free agent chefs has found a new home. Peter Serpico, the former director of culinary operations for the entire Momofuku Empire and the opening chef de cuisine/partner at Momofuku Ko (and James Beard winner), has resurfaced in Philadelphia with a brand new project backed by Stephen Starr. The Inquirer's Craig LaBan reports that the chef will open a 52 seat restaurant called Serpico this December at 604 South St. in Philly.

In recent months, the chef had been spotted out and about with Stephen Starr. Apparently, Serpico spent the summer working in one of Starr's kitchens developing a menu of haute comfort food dishes like stuffed lamb ribs, duck leg dogs, and oxtail soup with dumplings. The restaurant will serve an a la carte menu, and it will not take reservations. Of the move, Serpico explains, "It was a lifestyle choice for me."
