The lights are off and nobody's home at Shitshow Week-vet MPD in the Meatpacking District. A sign in the window notes that MPD is closed for renovations, and the restaurant's OpenTable account has been deactivated. The restaurant opened in 2010 as a collaboration between the Koch Brothers' Dual Groupe and a mysterious Russian company called the Ginza Group.
The Koch Brothers walked away from the project earlier this year and filed a lawsuit against Ginza over unpaid management dues and rights to the MPD trademark. Now the word on the street is that the Koch Bros. want to reopen the space for Fashion Week in February. The Dual Groupe also operates the Todd English-affiliated Flatiron restaurant Chateau Cherbuliez and Toy, just up the block.
