Back in March, Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli closed their Lower East Side Italian restaurant Frankies 17, and reopened it as a Basque tapas concept called Francesca. The restaurant attracted some good buzz over the summer, but now it looks like the Franks have closed the dining room, perhaps for renovations. A walk by shows that the interior has been completely gutted.
Eater has reached out to the Franks about what's going on, but they have yet to send word about the changes that are afoot. Will it reopen with a new design? Will it reopen with a brand new concept? Will it reopen as Frankies? Or maybe a hybrid of Frankies/Prime Meats? Or maybe a Titanic-themed restaurant? You never know with Frank F. and Frank C. — they're unpredictable. More news as it becomes available.
