It's that time of year again. The epic outdoor spectacle that is the Feast of San Gennaro kicks off in Little Italy tonight, and Team Torrisi is going all-out this year. As you may recall, Mario and Rich brought some foodie cred to the street fest two years ago when they started serving wok-fried mozzarella sticks and roasted pork sandwiches in front of Torrisi Italian Specialties. Other hot restaurants like The Breslin, L'Artusi, Rubirosa, and Frankies Spuntino joined the fest last year on the same stretch of Mulberry Street. Although most of those restaurant teams won't be returning this year, the Torrisi crew will be back with a huge stand that will serve seven dishes, including a Parm deli dog, Chinese ribs, polenta-battered knockwurst sausages, and ice cream sundaes. Parm Deli Dog: grilled hot dog wrapped in sopressata, genoa salami, pepperoni, and provolone. Topped with pickled deli peppers, lettuce, tomato, house spicy sauce, and zesty Italian dressing.The Feast of San Gennaro starts tonight and will run until September 23. And if you want thin-crust pizzas, the team from Rubirosa will be baking pies in a large, portable oven out on Mulberry Street.Brats in a Blanket: knockwurst sausage fried in a sweet corn polenta batter.
