Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:
1) Montauk SUPERBURGER
When: Today, 1 p.m to 4 p.m.
Where: 32 Star Island Rd, Montauk
What: Eleven chefs, including Seamus Mullen, Alex Stupak, and Zak Pelaccio, are heading out to Montauk to compete in the sixth annual Montauk SUPERBURGER. Pat LaFrieda, Spike Mendelsohn, and a handful of other burger experts will judge the East End's premiere burger battle to determine which chef has the tastiest burger. Tickets are $135, which gets you unlimited access to the chefs, their burgers, and some booze. Check out the full lineup here.
2) Bunna Cafe Pop-Up Dinner
When: Sunday, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Tradesman, 222 Bushwick Ave
What: Bunna Cafe, the Ethiopian pop-up restaurant, is making its way around Brooklyn and tomorrow, they set up shop at Tradesman in Bushwick. Expect a lot of hearty vegetarian fare, like steamed kale with carrots, red lentils cooked in a spicy Berbere sauce, and yellow split peas with yellow curry. For $12, you can try all seven dishes on the menu, or you can choose a combo of four for $8. There will also be beer, some strong Ethiopian coffee, and a lot of dancing.
3) Back Forty's Crab Boil in the Rockaways
When: Today, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Rockaway Beach Club, Beach 96 Concession Stand
What: Back Forty is taking over the Rockaway Beach Boardwalk again tonight, bringing their popular crab boil to the beach. $25 gets you a bucket packed with a half dozen spiced blue crabs, two ears of corn, some steamed potatoes, and access to covered outdoor seating. There will be beer from Low Tide Bar, and paper towels and mallets will be provided.
4) Authentic Filipino Pig Roast
When: Today, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: DeKalb Market, 138 Willoughby St
What: Filipino restaurant Maharlika is hosting an authentic Cebuano Lechon roast this afternoon. They've flown in an official Cebuano Lechon roast master who has built a roast box and will be preparing the traditional roasted pig dish. Tickets for the meal are $30, which gets you a heaping portion of the lechon, some rice, and a couple of sides. There will also be a Balut Eating Contest for your viewing pleasure, if you want to watch people scarf down as much boiled duck embryo as they can.
5) Blues BBQ Festival
When: Today, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Hudson River Park, Pier 84
What: For the 13th year, Hudson River Park is hosting its annual Blues BBQ Festival. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Brother Jimmy's BBQ will provide the food tastings while a handful of Blues bands from around the country preform live. Oh, and there will be beer and ample sides. Admission is free.
Also of Note: Smorgasburg and the Hester Street Fair are both on for today. The New Amsterdam Market is open tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be teaming up with FSNYC to host their Annual Tomato Fest and the first ever Great Tomato Un-Cookoff.
