The downstairs space in the Dream Downtown Hotel that housed Romera for a mere 25 weeks is set to become a Japanese restaurant in the fall. Flo Fab learns that Jonathan Morr, a partner in Bond St. and Republic, is teaming up with Studio Gaia to design the new space. Morr says the restaurant will have some French influences and he hopes to give it a lounge feel in the later hours. Marc Spitzer, the chef at Bond St. will also consult on the project.
Flo Fab also reports that Imperial No. 9, the restaurant in the Mondrian Soho and major participant in last year's Shitshow Week, will close this weekend and be replaced by Isola Trattoria and Crudo Bar in August. The new restaurant from the Morgans Hotel Group will only occupy the greenhouse space of the hotel and the kitchen will be headed by Victor LaPlaca.
